A highlight was Kouros, at one point delivering a chilling monologue on Berman’s life prior to fleeing Nazi Germany, and his experiences that followed in England during the war.
The character of Behrmann is also deeply endearing, initially perceived as an enemy. Over the course of the show it is revealed that he escaped a changing Germany in the 1930s and was previously misunderstood by Sue. Brilliantly played by Kouros, an emotional and transparent exchange between Sue and Behrmann was a highlight of the show for me.
Kouros brings a bewildered sorrow to Behrman who so wholly convinced himself that the Nazi storm would blow over Germany quickly and soon clear. This profoundly misguided perception has cost him greatly, most significantly and tragically in a love crushed to pieces under the Nazi heel.
